2010 Charity Christmas Card Catalogue now available

Yes, we know it’s early and you’re more likely to be thinking of sunscreen (or umbrellas) than snow, but we’d like to let everyone know about our attractive range of charity Christmas cards for Christmas 2010 for sale in aid of the Dyslexia Association. This year we have some new designs available, as well as some old favourites. Each pack costs €7.00 and contains 15 cards and envelopes. The Christmas Card catalogue containing further information and images of all cards can be downloaded from our DAI Christmas Cards webpage.

The Spectrum Alliance is an umbrella organisation which seeks to raise awareness of hidden disabilities. The four member organisations which make up the Spectrum Alliance are:

  • Aspire – Asperger Syndrome Association of Ireland.
  • Dyslexia Association of Ireland.
  • Dyspraxia Association of Ireland.
  • HADD Family Support Group.

The Spectrum Alliance conference will provide information on all four areas and in particular addressing the common co-occurrence of these disabilities.

1. One Day Course for Leaving Cert. Students with Dyslexia

Venue: Mercer Hotel, Lower Mercer St., Dublin 2.
Date: Saturday 9th October 2010.
This is a one day course for students in 5th and 6th year at second level. It will cover understanding your own dyslexia and learning style, note-taking, study skills and organisational skills and information students need to know about exam accommodation, application to third level and supports at third level.

2. Exam Preparation Course – Junior and Leaving Cert.

DAI runs a year-long Exam Preparation courses to help students sitting State exams (Junior and Leaving Certificate). These classes are held in the national office in Suffolk Street in Dublin on Wednesday (Junior Cert.) and Thursday (Leaving Cert.) evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The course consists of weekly sessions of two hours duration. The course covers the English syllabus, as well as on-going development of efficient reading, revision, note-taking and writing skills. This course runs from September to April of the exam year.

Information and application forms for the Suffolk Street exam classes are available now for the classes which will start in September 2010.

3.  Course for Junior Cert. Students

A free course for Junior Certificate students with dyslexia will be run concurrently with the Parents’ Courses. This students’ course is for 3rd Year students only. The course will cover topics such as study skills and exam preparation for the Junior Certificate.

Following the success of our first full year providing workshops in the Midlands for children with Dyslexia, we are delighted to announce that our Workshops are back again in September.  We have a new Venue this year in Tullamore in St Marys Youth Centre, (once again a huge thank you to the Principal Micheal Hyland, the Board [...]]]>  

Following the success of our first full year providing workshops in the Midlands for children with Dyslexia, we are delighted to announce that our Workshops are back again in September.  We have a new Venue this year in Tullamore in St Marys Youth Centre, (once again a huge thank you to the Principal Micheal Hyland, the Board of Management and all the Staff of Geashill National school for giving us the use of their school at such short notice last year).  We hope to get started mid September and will be meeting with parents of the new children starting.  Letters will be sent out to these parents over the next few weeks confirming these dates.  We only have a few places left for this academic year so please contact us if your are interested in sending your child on 086 2309009.  Our closing date for accepting children will be early Oct 2010. 

We are embarking on new venture in September with some of our children starting Secondary School and so commences our programme for Secondary School children - this will be phased in on a gradual basis.  Again if you have a child who would benefit from this programme please give us a call on 086 2309009. 

We are on a short holiday break at present but will be back at the end of August when we will once again be busy behind the scenes getting everything organised for the Workshops.  If you are interested in getting involved on a voluntary basis and could help with Administation or fundraising or feel you could contribute to our group in any way please give us a call as we would be delighted to get your help. 086 2309009

The course consists of a ten kilometre walk, jog or run from Fitzwilliam Square all the way around the corner to St Stephen’s Green taking in the sights of Dublin along the way.
